KB4535996 Cumulative update won't install

Eric Kazer

Hi, I have a Asus laptop that won't install KB4535996 update. It's the latest Cumulative update. I tried the Windows update troubleshooter, and the stand alone installer, the standalone installer fails too. Any suggestions.

Hi. I would suggest that you skip this update and wait for the next one. This update causes problems with many systems. Look here for instance: https://www.tomshardware.com/news/-problems-optional-windows-10-update

EDIT: It is an optional update anyway, so as long as you're not actively looking for updates via the Windows-Settings it will not be installed.

The next one failed too today. KB 4540673 today, 03-09-2020. It won't do any cumulative updates as of KB 4535996.

I'm not having trouble on other computers.

I hope that Definition updates are not blocked.

It appears that update KB 4540673 is a forced update that is blocking other updates in the normal settings rout. I am blocked by retry.

Oh, Error 0x800f0831.

I think it's the same for both of the updates.

Does seem to indicate missing files. Not anything to do with Windows Update. April Feature Update is coming soon.

And it keeps trying to install by itself unless I clear folder. Prevents checking for other updates. This one is not optional. Retry is only option.
