Monitor not getting a signal

So I just got a new 1.2 DP cable for my dual monitor setup. I plugged it into my gpu while it was still off. All of the sudden neither of my displays get any signal from the gpu. I've tried replugging the cables, turning off the pc, changing the cables to the setup up I used to use, but that all didn work. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Try and revert back to the old setup. Then turn off the machine and pull out the power cable. Let it sit for around a minute and then boot it up again.

That did work, but how to should I handle plugging in the 2nd monitor now?

Try and plug it in while the PC s running. Just to see what happens.

Try a reboot just to make sure it works long term.

Sorry for the late reply, whenever I reboot the pc, I have to repeat the process. I only get signal when I plug the DP 1.2 cable in while the pc is turned on and is displaying something on my second monitor.
