i dont want to say the exact opposite of this but i'm having a hard time thinking of a different way of putting it.

well i'll say this. an hour and a half is a lot less time than it will take to attempt to somehow update and repair your current installation.

You've not been very helpful or encouraging. You were better off just not posting in this thread at all.

I went to Rockstar's website and redownloaded the launcher. After reinstalling the launcher, the game is now updating and looks like it should be working as normal. BTW, it's taking 20 mins for the game to update.

Hi all. I haven't played GTA V in two years but have kept the game on my pc. I wanted to play again today but ran into issues. Firstly I do not have the steam version I have the boxed version nor do I have it linked through steam (I will not do this either). Now that's out of the way: When I launch the game, I am greeted by the screen shot below. It seems as though the window is too small, but I can't resize it. I cannot launch the game from here. Nor can I seem to update it. I found a tool that allows the game to skip the launcher entirely, which does work. But strangely, while I can play in Online mode, the game still isn't updated so I can't do anything with the new DLC - as in it does not exist. I do not want to have to reinstall this massive asshole of a game. I can't seem to find anyone else online with my exact issues. Any help is appreciated.

becuase nobody is expecting a 2 years old non updated boxed copy of the game to actually function correctly and solved it via just installing the steam version.

I think you should be pretty happy that it actually still goes online with no updates

Thing is, it should have just auto updated when I ran the launcher. The old launcher was just automatic, this new one is not and brings you to what you see in the screen shot. Even still, the window is too small and I can't resize it for whatever reason. Any buttons that say "launch" or whatever are cut off and I cannot scroll over to them. Rendering me stuck in this current predicament.

i'm willing to bet anything if i tried to play a boxed copy of age of empires from the 90s it also would have a similar issue with not automatically updating

there's no reason a game this far out of date has any reason to have the ability to find it's original update server , have the server somehow still have the update files specifically for a 2 year old version , then proceed to install that version and have it just work perfectly with an os that has 2 years of updates on it as well.

reinstall it , your op post was 26 minutes ago which is starting to near the amount of time it takes to install almost any program.

GTA V is still an actively updated game. When you launch the game to play it, it always checks for updates and installs any new ones. So me not being able to launch and play has nothing to do with how old my version is.

GTA V takes about 1hr 30mins to install including updates (that's with good hardware).

I did not reinstall the damn game. I reinstalled the launcher. The game is like 60gb of base files - hence why I did not want to reinstall the game in the first place. Your suggestion was to reinstall the whole game, not the launcher.

I've moved this to the PC Gaming forum, hopefully there you can get some actually useful replies.

Rockstar recently moved to a new launcher for their games replacing the old Rockstar Games Social Club launcher.

https://socialclub.rockstargames.com/rockstar-games-launcher

To get the latest updates you will need to download and install the new Rockstar Games Launcher.

I haven't used it, and I don't have a boxed retail copy of GTA V, but I believe it should use the same account information that you used for the RGSC account, so your copy of GTA V should still be linked to your account through the new launcher. Hopefully you will be able to point the launcher to the existing installed game files which it will then update without needing to download the entire game again.

God, why dos everyone need to have their own launcher?! Rockstar can't make a decent game without being full of bugs and think another launcher is what we need?!
