A quadro is almost necessary. An SSD is also necessary. A CPU such as an i7 or a Ryzen 7 will be beneficial. A minimum of 16 GB of RAM is needed as well. It's a tight budget for this line of work, but a quadro is very beneficial and the beginning tier of quadros will almost beat out an RTX 2080 Ti.

Edit: I believe this is the video that Linus recommends a quadro. I am currently unable to check though.

My uncle is an architect and wants to build a new PC for his work, and i was wondering if anyone could chime in and help set up a build for him. the budget is around 1100 dollars, what kind of set up could that amount of money buy?

1100? Go to linus's budget workstation youtube video, and see what would be more beneficial to upgrade (CPU, GPU, ect) but otherwise The video will be good advice to follow

What program Is he using AutoCAD? I worked for a gym doing their layout design for a while using AutoCAD. Make sure you have dual channel ram, a decent SSD, and a GPU (if he is working in 3d).

He should be using AutoCad as far as i know

this is the build that i put together for him, i went with an RTX 2060 at first, then i saw your comment and swapped it with a quadro P1000, i couldnt go higher than that as thats the limit of the budget, maybe you can help me with changing a few components to fit something better.

Change the motherboard to the MSI tomahawk b450 max- otherwise good build Maybe try to replace the CPU cooler to something a touch more powerful if your uncle will do heavy work with it, check out the air cooling teir list under the air cooling subsection. IDK byt maybe switch out the GPU for something else, like a 1660s, or maybe not. But I would reccomend asking him to push up the budget 50-100 USD

Good build, just change the motherboard and ensure those specs will work with the programs he uses.

puts it juuuust tiny bit out of budget, and i havent even considered the price of a case yet, this is a rough build, seeing that we might not have all of these parts here in my country, and the prices will be higher most likely as well, but thanks for the feedback

Hm I dont think you need a quadro though. Maybe reduce to a 1660s and chage out the MOBO and the cpu cooler to something more powerful/better

Only thing I would change is getting either 2x16gb ram or a 4x8gb kit instead of two separate 2x8gb kits.

i went with an RTX 2060 at first, then sorenson suggested a quadro, so i switched to one that was at the same price range

IDK but I don't think your uncle will be rendering really intense objects, so perhaps a 1660s and allocate the extra funds to a better cpu cooler, 4*8 gb ram, and a tomahawk MAX

The quadro won't benefit your uncle unless he is doing intensive stuff, like editing 8k video, but not making blueprints/structure designs. I think putting money towards things that will make life easier (like not having to update the bios) and things that can benefit the overall system ( like a better cpu fan, and more airflow in a case) Is more worth it than spending money on something that probably won't matter... But I don't know exactly what he'd be doing.

If you don't have the extra $100, then there are cheaper quadros for the price. But I was able to cram in a very good CPU and GPU.

My Build (5800X3D, RTX 3070)

disclaimer: i probably don't know what I'm talking about but I try to give the best advice I can
