So,

I finally went ahead and did my first OverClock on the z87 OC motherboard from Gigabyte and I waited until my RAM came back from RMA (third times clearly not the charm though.)

Went ahead and Overclocked my 4790K to 4.8ghz based on Linus's old video where he did it and it worked, took me all day mind you as when I did it I encountered the PC would just.

Hang

No clear reason went through and did the age old procedure of what broke and turns out one of my 2400mhz RAM sticks from Team Group just doesn't love me anymore brand new too third RMA.

But I also noticed an issue where when the board was populated in slots 3 & 4 on the Z87 OC that it would encounter issues and blue screen, even before the OC the system using my Kingston HyperX RAM

Would crash and be stuck in a boot loop and the errors everyone saw would be "north bridge" related issues as it was trying to boot up again.

Any idea why?

At this rate I just want to chuck it up to a bad board and shake my head at the bad stick again, the stick doesn't even give error codes it just makes the system hang completely.

My though process is it's the motherboard channel 3 and 4 creating issues. Then adding an overclock on top of it makes it unstable.

What's everyone's take on this?

I'm currently sitting at a 4.8ghz system with 16gb of RAM for gaming and editing, but can't give it another 16 due to the slot issue.

RMA the motherboard, seems like it's slots are broken according to your information.

Could this be a CPU Issue?

I had an issue with my Ryzen chip where it would refuse to operate in dual channel mode.

Turned out the memory controller on the CPU conked out.

The boards several years old at this point, RMA would be costly.

I was thinking the same thing, even when the Kingston RAM was involved it created the reboot loop with the system, and even on a MSI Gaming 6 board I own it didn't like having 32gbs of RAM
