On several Youtube channels people dumping this graphics card due to consisting driver problems is a topic. I'd like to see Linustech covering this (it's not the cheapest card, is it). It would interest me more than a mini computer in a Dyson or an aquarium for that matter.

A lot of people are having difficulty with these cards, but many are doing just fine. But there is definitely a problem with these cards because there is a lot more widespread issues than normal. AMD is having trouble reproducing these issues as well as reviewers.

I think that they should try building a bunch of systems using old and new components, different brands/models, different monitor setups using different resolutions, refresh rates, different display connectors and clean/dirty installs of different versions of Windows 10 and then run a variety of games on these systems as a sort of driver quality/stability stress test. Maybe run them for a week or so, have little "tournaments" on them playing various old and new games and mess around with the Radeon Software features while testing (turning FreeSync/Enhanced Sync on and off, using ReLive, Radeon Image Sharpening, GPU Scaling, different pixel formats, etc...). Maybe this will help them to reproduce at least some of the issues.

PC:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X | AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE | 32 GB RAM | Arch Linux

Laptop:

MacBook Pro 13" (2019) | Intel Core i5 8279U | 8 GB RAM | macOS

Server:

Intel Core i7 6700K | 16 GB RAM | 2 TB HDD | Debian Linux

It’s the cheapest “1080” class card.  By a good $50-100.  I thought these problems were more or less fixed though they had been a big deal for a while.  Check dates.  You could be looking at old stuff.  If there’s STILL issues though there could be a continuing problem

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

AMD has had a reputation for having poor graphics drivers for a long time. They have a very small team of people working on the drivers compared to Nvidia. I think these issues are seemingly more widespread now because of how popular the 5700 & 5700xt were.

It's an ongoing issue. Literally listed in the known issues section on new driver updates, and mentioned in one of their newer blog posts. Here's a video from 4 days ago as well:

The reviewers themselves didn't have issues in this case (I know GamersNexus has though), but a much larger portion of their community complained about drivers than is healthy. I'd be one of the people complaining and I'm not even on Navi (RVII here, 2nd gen Vega). Rig just blackscreened AGAIN last night, so I finally bit the bullet and ran DDU, then reinstalled Adrenaline 2019 WQHL drivers from November last year, because that's the most recent set of drivers to actually be stable.

Could be it? But Pascal and Turing cards have sold like hotcakes too, and their drivers are currently in a much better spot on average.

Sounds like they need those drivers fixed bad and they need a bigger team to do it.  Luckily they’ve got a bit more money now.   They’ve got a cheaper faster card, but if they can’t make it work they’re hosed.

I suppose I'm one of the lucky. Have the Sapphire Nitro since October last year. Problem free until recently upgrade to driver 20.2.1. Experienced the first black screen, three times in one day. Eventually rolled back to 20.1.3.

AMD really has no excuse. Unless they fix the driver. Even if the "Big Navi" is supposed so much faster than 2080Ti. If it keeps black screen or this or that. That will be no way I would buy it.
