In December 2013 in the UK, the supreme court ruled that Scientology was a religious organisation after legal action was taken to allow a wedding in a Scientology church in London.

This decision has overwritten over 158 years of law in the UK regarding the classification of religion. This has also allowed Scientology to become a tax exempt organisation and may have opened the doors to other similar organisations to claim religious status.

I would like to hear what people think of this decision, especially people in the UK, but also places like the US where this religion has some prominence as well as anything else you would like to discuss about this organisation.

Keep this thread nice and friendly, it is just an open discussion, try and refrain from mentioning other religions unless completely necessary or anything else which you feel might be too provocative.

I really hope we can stay on topic in atleast one of these threads.

because I'm interessted what people think.

Me too, I never thought I would be posting one of these topics, but I genuinely am interested in hearing what others think about this decision as well as what they think in general.

Hopefully it goes smoothly. I will be keeping an eye on it and if it gets out of hand I will request the thread be removed. I really don't want to put pressure on the mods.

There are literally millions of members of Scientology. They believe in a "God", Lord Xenu. It's no more radical then any Abrahamic religion and less so even then some older ones. What makes Christianity a religion and not Scientology?

I personally think it's a load of bollocks and quite silly, but that doesn't stop millions of people from believing in it.

Can you please elaborate on why it has overwritten over 158 years of law in the UK? What does that even mean?

Most Scientologists deny the existence of Xenu from what I have heard. They supposedly have some sort of 'pay to win' structure that allows access to the secrets of the religion, the presence of this god Xenu being one of them, I believe it is OT III (a term the use for their hierarchy of secrets). I really don't understand a lot about this though, maybe you could explain it to me?

In the UK it has been ruled a religion without a god and that is one of the many things that is different to all other legal religions in the UK and what has changed in laws dating back over 150 years.
