Keyboard PCB

I hope this is the right place but I’m looking to learn more about PCBs and microcontrollers. I am designing a keyboard PCB and my friend helping me with the schematic asked me which microcontroller I want and I have NO idea. I know I want it to be USBC but past that I have no idea what to answer him lol. 
 

(he knows more about making PCB schematics than keyboard specifics, so he’s also not sure what I want)

It's not uncommon to just use a Pro Micro, like this. There is an alternative, the Elite-C, which is essentially the same, but with a type C connector. I believe it uses an ATmega32U4, if you want it on the main PCB. For software, there's QMK, which you can configure to work on it relatively easily.
