So a certain website got blocked in my country, pretty sure it got blocked in all of EU. The point is that I can access it if I use the "free" VPN in Opera.

Now the question is: Just because I can now access the website, does that mean that the VPN is doing it's job properly or no?

At least partially, yes. It means that the VPN is properly redirecting traffic to another country before sending it out to the internet.

This does NOT prove that the VPN is any more secure than normal. The traffic could still be encrypted poorly, or the VPN company itself could be collecting data about your browsing habits and activity.
