So I have a HP ENVY x360 convertible laptop running Windows 10 as my only computer. I use it for literally everything, including gaming. I know that it's not the ideal choice for gaming, but it is what I have to work with. I noticed my CPU temps were getting hot enough to cause thermal throttling a lot of the time due to the system not speeding up the fan fast enough to cool the computer quickly. I decided I would try to manually control the cooling fan, and have it run at full speed while gaming to help with the throttling issue. Come to find out, HP does not allow any way for me to take control of the fan speed at all. While looking into the issue, HP says that a lot of their non-gaming computers are designed to prevent the user from taking control of the cooling system. Their argument on their forums is that the user taking control of the cooling system could damage the components of the computer. I've never heard of more airflow damaging a computer before (other than wearing out the fan faster of course). They even go on to say that the built-in software and hardware for these computers is better than taking manual control yourself. I can personally say that this simply isn't the case (due to me experiencing the thermal throttling issues). I know they don't recommend using this kind of computer for gaming, but it's what I have to work with, and I don't have the money to get (or build) a dedicated gaming computer.

I don't understand how this makes any sense to HP to do this to their computers. Does anyone know how this makes any sense to remove the ability of the end user to control their cooling system? I'm at the point where I have stopped recommending HP computers to anyone, no matter the model. If their solution to this is just to buy a new computer for gaming, instead of allowing someone to work with what they have, then that is something I simply can't support or recommend.

Well there are other models from other brands that did the same (Dell, Lenovo etc). Favours acoustic for performance. Nothing you can do about it (most 3rd party fan control program won't work), maybe can try older BIOS
