current parts are as followed.

RSV-L4500 15 bay with 14 of those 4 or 8tb hdd in them and 1 ssd.

Asus PRIME B350-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard

AMD Ryzen 3 2200G 3.5 GHz Quad-Core Processor

Crucial 8 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200

 

most likly win 10 will be used in this.

 

looking at now

a heatsink.(normal tower shape one)

psu

basic gpu.

also a 10gb nic card.

If you're looking to build a legitimate File Server why not user server components? IPMI/iDRAC/ILO is a great tool you do not have on consumer boards.

mostly do to cost.  this will be for my use only.  i back up all my mother data(from her pc) and  take both 4k images and videos.

so this will also be a nas to.

You could save some money by using an OS other than Microsoft Windows. There are many Linux based distributions designed for use as a NAS.

i tried free nas. it brick both a hdd(testing drive) and usb one.
omv was a mess......

so that now limits 2  popular ones of the list

You could checkout PROXMOX. It's basically FreeNAS but with a much better hypervisor for virtual machines.

 

If you're open to doing things CLI only you can do Ubuntu Server+ZFS. I have a guide on this if you're interested.

 

You could checkout Rockstor. It uses BTRFS.

 

There's CentOS. I don't have much experience with it but it's popular for multi-purpose scenarios.

i will look into both pro and rock.

any thing you can think of on the hardware side. psu and such.
