I have an ITX build with a AMD Ryzen 7 1700X which I believe the max speeds it supports is DDR4-2666

Is there any downside to throwing in some G.Skill (2 x 16GB) DDR4 3600 other than wasting money and over kill?

Currently G.Skill (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2132 and have been running into some nasty stuttering issues with my GTX 1070 at max settings and 1080p resolution.

Nope, no issues at all with running RAM at lower than its rated speed.

Thank you!

Also, anytime I touch the XMP profile no matter what I select the PC wont boot. I have no idea what to do other than just throwing some faster memory into it.

XMP is basically just a pre-set overclocking profile, and 1st-gen Ryzen has lots of issues with it. (especially with RAM sticks designed with only intel in mind)

Try manually bumping up voltage to your RAM and memory controller, and seeing if you can run at 2666Mhz. You might not even need to buy new RAM. There are YouTube tutorials for how to do this.

you should be able to set which XMP frequency you want to use.

first gen memmory controller can go to about 3000mhz. 2933mhz should be fine.

I have ASRock Fatal1ty B450 gaming-itx/ac and Ryzen 7 1700x

What is the best memory I should be putting in my system. I just saw on AMD's website and wikichip "Max Type DDR4-2666". I just took delivery of my Ripjaw memory 3600 today from NewEgg. I feel like I am just wasting money at this point if I throw it in.

You'll probably be able to run it at 2933 tbh
