Hi there, I've had a PC for about 1 year now and it's finally time to upgrade to a 144hz monitor which is arriving today (very excited). I do have a few questions though.

1. Do I need to be getting 144fps to maximise it? I mostly play R6 and sit at around 120fps on max settings, sometimes spiking to 180 or sitting at 135 but probably averaging 120, will this be ok? I only really care about fps for siege as the other games I play (mostly GTA 5) are more demanding and not competitive so the refresh rate won't be as influential.

2. If I do need ton be getting 144fps, how would you recommend finding the extra 20 frames bearing in mind siege is a CPU heavy game. Other than getting another 8GB stick of RAM as I only have 8GB at the moment and I don't want to upgrade if I don't have to. Pretty much just asking if overclocking my CPU/GPU/RAM speed will do anything and if so how would I do it/are there any good posts or videos you would recommend as the ones I've watched go a bit fast and I don't really understand.

Thanks in advance :)

i mean, to maximise a 144hz monitor, you need to get 144fps. do you want to or need to, that's another question. if your monitor is freesync (most of them are), you can enable freesync and it won't be a problem if you get less fps.

to increase fps, getting a second stick of ram and running in dual channel will definitely help. probably not a 20% increase in fps, but definitely a 10% increase. depending on yyour specs and cooling solution, you might get another 10% through overclocking.

In some cases Nvidia controlpanel will limit the display to 120Hz. Go to Nvidia controlpanel under Display>Change resolution you can find the refresh rate.

Please mention or quote me if you want a response. :)

Well, for one, you can definetely lower some settings from Ultra High to just High. Won't be that much of a difference. Notable examples: shadows, textures, MSAA (from 4x to 2x) and reflections. What you shouldn't touch is AF (x16 is necessary for sharp image and it doesn't eat little to no perfomance), Geometry and Resolution. You can also turn off most of post-processing like DoF, Bloom, Blur, grain, Vignetting, Chromatic Abberation, FXAA.

Purify your Windows 10/11, don't give Microsoft anything that you don't want to share.
