How to mount 2nd GPU without impeding the airflow of my 1st GPU?

Shiro Tsuchiya

Good day!

I’m planning to add another GPU as my dedicated encoder but I don’t want to put it below the 1st GPU because it’s very thick and if I put the 2nd GPU on the next PCIE x16 slot I know that my main GPU will have a problem with airflow. I’m willing to use a riser cable but I don’t have an idea on how to mount it. I have a X570 TUF motherboard from ASUS and a RTX 2070 Gaming Z from MSI, the extra GPU is an MSI GTX 1050Ti Aero

Current setup as of now

What’s the case?
Can’t see properly now but looks like you have vertical mount for gpu, you can maybe use that and pcie extension cable

Edit : I spend way too much time on the PC ( im too blind to see your first sentence). I would just use your RTX 2070 as your NVENC card since you can use new NVENC. (new nvenc uses previous framedata and keeps it in the gpu to improve performance) I think you should just sell your 1050ti on ebay.

I have a question. Why would you use two GPU's? I don't think you would need two GPU's for anything in 2020.

I have GPU just lying around so I want to use it. Also, using a 2nd GPU for encoding will help and have less impact in FPS while gaming.

Not really, it would just be more beneficial to  just sell your 1050ti on ebay. New NVENC has even less framerate losses.

Looks like you have room on the bottom. So if the board is long enough, put it down there. As close to the shroud as you could.

Also won’t help as much as you like but it’s worth a shot. As the cpu still has to do the work.

I mean OP also loses image quality due to not using the NVENC chip on the 2070

Edit

see that video for more information ^

Yea I’m well aware how it works. I don’t stream off a single rig so im not concerned with frame loss or image quality.

Yeah, I was just trying to make OP aware of the disadvantages because NVIDIA got good at encoding.

Yea if the game allows the headroom. Don’t like the performance hit myself or else I would have avoided all the extra work. But can’t say for sure if it’s even the card that’s having an issue. Which normally isn’t the case.
