Help with storage selection

Cysquatch

This is my first time posting here, So hello everyone!  I spent a lot of time at another forum that isn't so active anymore.  I thought I'd try something else new!

To my question,  I'm currently using an ASRock AB350 Pro4 motherboard.  My main drive is a 500gb Samsung 970 EVO and is in my pcie gen3 x 4 m.2 slot.  Im a huge fan of the m.2 form factor and I would like to get a 2tb extra storage drive, but my second m.2 slot is only sata 3 speeds.  Would it be possible to utilize my spare Pcie 3.0 slot with an adaptor for full speed on a nvme drive?  Thanks in advance

Yes, however, I wouldn't immediately dismiss SATA M.2 drives because the performance benefit between NVMe and SATA is practically not there.

Possible, but I personally see no difference in user experience between my HP EX920 (PCIe 3.0 x4) and Samsung 840 Pro (SATA) apart from specific loads like scratch disk of video editing. I thought it would speed up game loading times, but none of them go past 200MB/s which is less than half of the max of even SATA3 SSDs.

So basically, I might as well just utilize my second m.2 slot, or just get a sata3 ssd?  Thanks again

Yes, put an M.2 SATA SSD in it.
