Hey all, I'm planning to transfer all my components from a prebuilt gaming hp to a custom case. I've already bought some aftermarket parts like a new PSU, Ram, and eventually a cooler but looking for general tips when doing this. I will not be upgrading the motherboard yet which is my main concern as it is a Lincs OEM 843b and will going into a Fractal case. Also while you are at it, throw me some mobo's considerations to look into.

Prebuilt systems in general are famous for sometimes having non standard connectors and bits.  You’ll want to read up on the particulars of your motherboard.

it may or may not even be atx standard for one.

Some OEM motherboards for example are not actually compatible with many aftermarket parts. They can have differently placed mounting holes, or components on the board that make adaptor brackets impossible, or non standard connectors, or other things.  They also tend to have custom BIOS that may not allow CPUs that would otherwise work considering the socket to be installed.  Even the ram may have problems.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
