The Game of Upgrades

Hello All,

Currently I am trying to choose a new laptop to upgrade too. Currently I am using a Razer Blade 14 (GTX 1060, i7-7700HQ 4 Core, 16GB(Soldered)). When I bought this laptop it was great, however my needs have changed significantly.

I am looking for something thin and light that I can travel. I currently have a decent desktop( i7-7700k, GTX 1070, Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4 3200MHz ), so I am not necessarily looking to replace my desktop with my laptop, but I eventually plan on updating to a RTX 2080 Super, and possibly a i9-9900K or Ryzen 9 3900X(haven't truly decided yet). My budget is around $ 2500.00, I can go slightly hight but thats where I would like to be.

Some of the basic specs that I am looking for are:

  • Processor: i7 (hopefully 6 cores)
  • Ram: 32GB or more
  • Graphics: RTX 2060 or better,  but I can suffer.
  • Storage: Any - I can upgrade at anytime
  • Size: 15 inches preferably, but 13 or 17 is more than fine
  • Weight: Light preferably ~ 5lbs, but if it is heavier thats fine.
  • Battery Life: I would like a few hours but my expectations are low.

I have done quite a bit of research on several laptops. But for the life of me I cannot make a decision. So I pass it off to you, have you help me make the decision.

Laptops I have looked at:

  • Dell XPS 15
  • Dell XPS 13
  • Dell Alienware m17
  • Dell Alienware m15
  • Dell Alienware m17 r2
  • Dell Alienware m15 r2
  • Lenovo X1 Extreme Gen 2
  • Lenovo Y740 17inch
  • Lenovo C940
  • Razer Blade Pro 15 Advanced Model
  • Razer Blade Pro 17

Maybe wait until some of the laptops shown off at CES this year come to market (2 months maybe?) with the Ryzen 4000 mobile processors, which will likely offer more cores at less power than Intel's offerings. (ALTHOUGH YOU SHOULD ALWAYS WAIT FOR REVIEWS/BENCHMARKS)

As long as it has at least 6c/12t & a m.2 NVMe drive with 32gb of ram...you should be golden...I think some places will custom build you a machine ?
