Completely stumped

I’m making a friend her first pc, works fine when it boots, gets into windows and then the gpu stops displaying once either windows downloads the default drivers or I try.

 

I have tried my 1080ti and AMD 580 

 

it works on post and windows at the start 

 

I have also tried multiple bios’

 

x99 deluxe original 

5820k

 

this was meant to be a Christmas gift but I’m out of ideas now

just for giggles can you install beside it a free distro of linux and see if it works?

Boot into safe mode and use DDU to remove all drivers?

I’ve tried multiple installs of windows and that didn’t work, I’ve not tried Linux before

Are you 100% sure that the gpu is real? When ever some fake gpus load into windows, the driver downloads, then the card stops working. Is the card used, because maybe its broken.

did you consider the fact that you might be using both sets of drivers for the nvidia and amd card? Having both sets of drivers and mess things up.

Yes they work in my main computer bought from scan.co.uk

I can’t use the pc shortly getting into windows / when I try installing the drivers, I’ve had to constantly wipe my windows install let alone the drivers.

5820k doesn’t have built in graphics so can’t check, it works for a bit and works if I don’t install any drivers but then I can’t change resolutions or use the card correctly

What monitor are you using? Do you have another at hand? Might just not support the resolution/frequency the PC decides to output to it.

i doubt that you have two faulty cards, but it's possible.

 

It sounds like it might be an issue with different hardware in the PC that's causing the issue.

Both cards work fine in literally every other pc

Tried multiple monitor including normal 1920x1080

try setting the PCIE x16 slot to gen3 manually in bios if you have that setting available.... probably won't change anything but worth a try

If yes next step is to take the CPU out, check both CPU and socket are clean and reseat. Might be that some of the pcie lane connections are flaky, once the driver is there and it goes to using the full width some connections are broken and it craps out.

 

If that still doesn't do it... either mobo or CPU is likely toast.

Yeah I tried the RAM earlier on and same issues. I'll give your idea about cleaning it a go soon, will see if any other ideas work first as they're obviously quicker

Try DDU all drivers (even if you probably don’t have any) is safe mode, than it may be that windows is not up to date (it sometimes causes the problems) and you have to download all updates first, than get GeForce Experience and it’ll download and install all drivers for you. Try this first if you didn’t before
