I was looking into building a system and using a vm so to people can use it (light gaming, taxes, etc.) i was wondering if i would need 2 gpus or if one would work (2080 ti would be used)

if i cant use one gpu ill have to buy either 2 2080's or get like an rx 580.

If you’re doing a pass through on the VM and want to use the machine while the VM is up, then I think yes.  If you don’t launch the VM though it should register to your OS I would think.  Could be wrong.  Might be OS dependent.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

Normally its better to have multiple systems, Its simpler to setup, more reliable, and cheaper normally.

Consumer gpus don't let them be shared between vms, so you can't share one vm.

You can also use multipoint for multiple users on one system, and not use vms at all, but some software doesn't like that.

You can have one copy of windows with 2 users at the same time with one gpu, and 2 keyboards, mice and monitors, with some software.

But really, get 2 computers, Its almost always a better solution.

dont have money for 2 systems, i wouldnt be using 2 systems at once alot anyway. i was trying to see if i needed two gpus, i can afford another gpu but not another system,

maybe ill just find an old prebuilt and get an even more shitty graphics card ?.

150 for prebuilt+150 for gpu+salvaged psu= shitty guest pc ?

but this makes more sense to me thank you!

What is your total budget? You can probably do the lightweight system for something liek 200usd easily, or less if you can get good deals. Something like a i5 and 750 should do this fine.
