CPU upgrade or gpu upgrade

I mean the i7 4790 has pretty bad ipc. Its still decent so is the rx580. Tho you should get the 5700 xt for now and upgrade your cpu later

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

I have an older Core i7 and it works fine for the most part with the rx580, however with a few games I had to overclock my GPU (I just used the auto overclocking function in the Radeon Software) to prevent game lag.

 

 

Edit: Nvm, I read that wrong. Idk.

I would say upgrade the GPU first.

 

Why do you want to upgrade at all ?

What monitor are you using ?

Are you looking for high refresh rate at 1080p or 1440p or 4k ?

 

I do agree that you should upgrade your GPU first but.... 

Depending on what games you play your CPU could struggle at 1440p or 4k to give you the max performance out of a 5700xt

Yes, you're fine to go ahead and upgrade. You CPU is fine. If you game in 1440p, it will be a sufficient CPU for a while I imagine.

Hey guys, jumping on this thread so I don't have to open a new one: I have the same doubt. I own a R5 1500X OC to 3.9 and a RX580. Do you think I should upgrade my CPU to a R5 3600 (or possibly a R5 2600 maybe? dunno?) before upgrading to a an RX5700 (non XT)  - the budget is tight so I can't do both at the same time

monitor cpu and gpu usage while playing the games you play. which one is more often close to 100%? that's the one you need to upgrade

rdr2 is gpu-intensive and poorly optimised. upgrading gpu will help. if utilisation is at 100%, the cpu utilisation will be lower. cpus are utilised more when you get into 100+ fps
