Hi, so I bought a monitor called Alienware AW2518HF and when I turned it on, it gave me a message saying that I don't have a DisplayPort cable. I was confused of why it needed it and I looked on user's guide. It said it's part of it, but I didn't get it on the box. I was wondering of which DP cable I should get for the 240hz monitor to work. Also, I don't have a computer with it, so don't I need it as well for this monitor to work? Thank you for reading this.

If it is it’s a very subtle one.  Not everyone is a computer expert.  I’m certainly not.  One of my problems here is walking into conversations where people know a whole lot more about IT than they sound like they do and winding up in deep water.  This one I think I can do if it’s real. It’s very possible it someone who DOES know that is making fun but I’m going to assume it’s not.

Went on for a bit

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

A DisplayPort cable is a digital cable that’s a lot like hdmi but it does better stuff.  Because it’s digital “high grade” doesn’t really matter so get a cheap one long enough to get the monitor where you want it

I'm trying to understand the question? It sounds like he's asking does he need a computer to use a computer monitor... It's just worded poorly and sounds like he's asking a sarcastic question.

Ensure you get a DP version 1.4 cable.

1080p 240 Hz only requires HBR2 speed, he doesn't need an HBR3 cable.

Oh shit, my bad. I assumed it was 1440p. Good catch.
