New information about the ATH-M50X

asickduckie

Some other things worth pointing out about the ATH-M50x that were not pointed out by audio technica themselves:

Apart from the detachable headphone cable compared to the previous generation ATH-M50X, there are a few other differences of note.

The headband on top of the headphones were improved, along with a new type of pleather earpads that were also improved.

Another new bit of information is that the way the removable cable locks in is in a "bayonet" type, which means that it locks by twisting the cable after you put it in the housing. It means that the cable won't just get removed when you pull on it.

Coiled cord 1.2m (much longer when coils are extended)

3m straight cord

1.2m straight cord

Pleather case for putting your headphones in is also included

3.5mm to 1/4 inch (6.3mm) adapter only works on the 3m straight cord and the 1.2 mm curled cord. It will not work with the 1.2m straight cable.

The blue version is a limited edition version, similar to how the gray version was a limited edition version for Audio Technica's 50th anniversary. This means that if you are looking at getting some schmexy brown and blue action going on, you better hurry up, because it's not a permanent color scheme and it will run out and never be made again.

As for pricing the MSRP is 239$, but as always the audio technica headphones are well below msrp, sitting in at 189$ with free shipping on amazon right now. I expect that price to drop a little more as well once the headphones are actually released (don't expect 100$ either though.)

Nice. I am thinking about picking up a pair of ATH M50s to add to my headphone collection but I might hold out for one of those. However the regular version looks much better.

The new cables (3 in total) are definitely worth the extra price. The old coiled cable is just junk for use on the go. It's also always nice to see removable cables because one of the things that often gives out on headphones is the cable. Being able to replace it means you should expect a longer lifespan out of them.

that is one fugly color combination

I feel like Audio Technica is like the Noctua of audio in that respect...

Has Aud. Tech. partnership. Can varify that the M50x is going to sound no different than the M50. Making its price more unreasonable.

any headphone that doesn't have detachable cable can't worth more than $100.

You can kind of tell that I was going for that color scheme, but I tried to make it not so ugly.
