Hello everyone,

Ive had this intel i5-2400 lying around for sometime and decided to put it to use, so i bough an lga 1155 motherboard to go with it off ebay.

Everything went flawlessly during the build process, I've even got a video signal from the motherboard and went to the bios,But then when i tried unplugging the psu to put everything is a case, and tried again, nothing, the fans made a slight movement as if they were going to start to spin, but immediatly failed : the pc won't boot.

I tried to replace the PSU because i found out that it had just died during the process and still nothing, maybe the psu killed the motherboard with it when it died ?

Sadly it’s been known to happen.  To more than just the mobo even. A power surge can get anything on the board.  It can even leave the motherboard clean and hit something higher up.  This is why the PSU is one of the scarier things in a PC.

You could be lucky though and there is something simple wrong.

Does the motherboard have a debug system?

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

From what's being described it's like the system is detecting a short, going into protect mode.

Usually they will do that is something out of range is detected by the system.

Are you using the same PSU in the case as the one used outside of it?

You can retest outside the case again and see if it will go, could be something like a case fan or something with an issue shutting it down and if it does work I'd check stuff associated with the case.

No it's a pretty old used motherboard.

It’s newer than mine and I’ve got those.  They were more features than assumed things to have then though.  If there’s nothing lighting up they’re either dead or registering nothing wrong even if you’ve got them though.

the short thing @Beerzerker mentions could be fried motherboard but it could also be something like a screw in the case behind the motherboard or something, in which case you might be lucky. It’s not only about disconnecting cables.
