Hello everyone,

I recently built a new PC and have been having issues with it after about a month of it being built. The primary use is gaming at about 98% of the time. The build is as follows,

Asus maximus xi hero + wifi

i9 9900k, Till that died and had it replaced with a ks model.

CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB PRO 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz

Evga 2080ti FTW3 Ultra hybrid. Failed and waiting on my new one to be delivered from evga.

Samsung 970 evo M.2 NVMe 512gb x2

Samsung 850 pro SATA 512gb x6

Cooler master 240mm RGB AIO.

enermax case with RGB fans and strip. Hate it due to poor airflow when the front panel is on.

Evga 850 BR semi modular PSU

So after the first month the 9900k failed to boost higher than 4.5 ghz. I attempted to update Bios, re-seat the CPU, clean and apply new thermal paste, and reset the CMOs. After weeks of trouble shooting with Asus and Intel, I sent back the processor and got a full refund and then bought a KS model.

I was very happy with the performance for about 3 weeks. Every game I played was set to ultra on every setting and still managed to get 110 fps or more with a 3440x1440 resolution. All my temps where under 65c at all times.

Well after one day of gaming any bigger more intensive game started to lag in FPS getting down to 40 fps. I once again started to trouble shoot everything. Well after a few days on the phone with Asus and Evga we determined that the video card went bad. Mind you its about 2 months old at this point.

This has been very annoying to deal with and I'm not sure if I am doing something wrong or if I am just having the worst luck.

Can anyone give me some in site to what I can do to improve my reliability? The system is on a 1500 VA 2U rack mount battery backup.

Thank you guy for everything!!

I have this annoying habit of restating things to make sure I understand the problem.  Apologies in advance:

You got a 9900k which boosted, but not how you wanted it to.  You returned it and got a higher binned chip.

Now the machine is lagging bad.  You did unspecified things, and got the manufacturers to RMA the card.

It sounds like you have some serious phone intimidation skills.
The 4.5 is in spec.  I’m impressed you got them to take it back.

My suspicion is you had only one problem not two.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

My computer was fine after I changed the processor. It wasnt till about 3 weeks later that the machine started to lag out. I have since bought a 1070 and put that in for the meantime and the system is back to normal. So the card was actually at fault. I also reinstalled windows and updated windows version a few time to try and fix the issues. At all times I was clear as day with all the manufacturers of the products about what was going on and they all were happy with the resolution that we came up with. I told every company what I was using for hardware and cooling solutions so they were informed. Intel was happy to take the 9900k back, and evga was more than happy to replace my card with a new one and not a remaned card from their stock piles. All I'm looking for is a few suggestions to prolong the life of the machine so that im not bothering any other company about warranty.

Thank you!

Well making sure temperature and voltage on your CPU is at a safe level is a good way to ensure longevity of the CPU. Having a good power supply that provides good clean power with limited electrical noise is also a big one.

Thank you Brooksie! Would you consider my power supply good from my specs above? When i look at HWmonitor everything seems fine off and on load.

However if there is something special I can look into can you be more specific?

thank you

Honestly it sorta depends because some models are better than others so the model should be taken into account but also there is the possibility of getting a defective power supply that is still technically functional but isn't working properly in terms of providing clean power. If you experience issues with other components going bad later down the line I would suggest taking a look at replacing the power supply because if components in a system keep going bad often times it's the power supply that is at fault. There is always a possibility that it is the motherboard but that isn't as common. As far as the quality of your current power supply I honestly haven't hear of the model before and cant seem to find any reviews for it.

Here is the link to the power supply. I have had this model for about 3 years now and have had it replaced 4 times due to a failure.

this should is one resource I have used in the past to help find good power supplies.

I will take a look at this. I was thinking of upgrading to a 1300 or more watt unit anyways to add a second 2080it. Mostly for rendering in c4d

Yeah a nice power supply is definitely a must for multiple 2080 tis. I have heard of a couple people having a 2080 ti and thinking it was broken only to find out that once they replaced the power supply it worked just fine. The 2080 ti is a hungry card in terms of power that's for sure.
