So I'm looking to upgrade my 10 year old pc and I've never built one from scratch. I've performed upgrades on my current one, such as the graphics card, power supply, and adding an SSD. But It runs an I7-920 with 6GB of ram. The processor itself works great still, but the 6GB of ram is becoming more and more of a problem over the years. I could try to upgrade just the ram, but I think its time to just upgrade my CPU, Ram and Motherboard.

I came up with a pc part picker list and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on anything I should change.

I won't start upgrading until after February, but I figure it doesn't hurt to start looking now.

You are buying an m.2 nVME drive, no need for the SSD, but I would get a larger spinner drive.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Looking to stay under $1000, preferably in the $800 area though.

What do you think?

A beefier version below for more VM and multiple programs, 8c/ 16t. 5TB should be enough, i suggest building a NAS.

Anything from software development, virtual machines, streaming, games, to typical day to day browsing.

32 GB will be good for VM and running lots of things in the background.

-In budget

-8 Core Ryzen CPU w/o throwing money away on the more expensive 3800x (not worth the price difference right now)

-Better RAM speed for a 32GB kit  (DDR4-3600 with CL16 latency)

-Better NVMe drive (doesn't use QLC like the cheaper Intel one, this Kingston has the write performance you'd want at almost same price)

-Motherboard VRM is top-notch and allows for OC if desired (and has a clean black theme going for it)
