I just saw the specifications of your machine. Is getting a AMD Ryzen 5 3600 instead of AMD Ryzen 5 2600 worth the extra $'s?  Looks like both have the same number of cores and threads with a higher clock rate on 3600 of 4.2GHz. What sort of difference will this make?

Here are the listings that i referred?

Ryzen 5 3600

Ryzen 5 2600

the 3600 is a lot faster than the 2600 in terms of single threaded applications. The reason I said 2600 is because it's priced about the same as the processor you were looking at and I'm not sure what your budget is. If it fits your budget, a 3600 would certainly outperform the 2600, though you may prefer to spend that extra budget on a better GPU.

Hi,

I am planning to build a budget system for my programming/gaming needs. I have created a list by searching through Amazon for different components for the build. Here are the components that I am planning to use. How will this specifications perform for the coming 6-7 years? Will it be good for gaming? Please provide me with recommendations if any.

(Pricing is given in INR. 1 CAD = 54 INR/ 1 USD = 71 INR)

I'd try to get a ryzen 2600 instead of an i5 since it has more cores. If you're going to be programming on it at some point you'll probably need more cores at some point. I don't think 6 cores without SMT will carry you for programming in the coming 6-7 years.

Can you recommend me a GPU under 300 USD that would go with this machine?

1660 or 1660 Ti. If you can strech to it, get a 5700, but thats probably too much.

If you can find a deal or slightly increase the budget to 320 or so you could get a RX 5700. If prices where you live are unfavorable or you need CUDA I'd choose the 1660 super, it's significantly faster than the 1660 and has GDDR6.

The 5700 is faster than the 1660 super but also a bit more expensive, it really depends on deals where you live.

Thanks a lot for your answer. The RX 5700 will cost me around ~450 USD here in India. So I checked for 1660 Super and found it for 307 USD. So I guess I would go with that. Since you told me to go for a Ryzen 5 2600 CPU I updated my list. Here is the new one. It would be great if you could check for any compatibility issues/bottlenecks,

I'd try to get a b450 motherboard, mostly because it's better but also because that motherboard needs a bios upgrade before it supports ryzen 2nd and 3rd generation processors. Other than that I don't see any compatibility issues.

This is a good system. If you can, I'd try to get a B450 motherboard because of the quality and performance increase it will give you. You can also try to get faster RAM as Ryzen benefits greatly from fast RAM (although 3000 MHz is fine, just remember to turn on XMP/DOCP)
