2x 6pin pci-e slots to 8pin pci-e plug adapter?

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

The 6 pin connector carries the same amount of power as the 8 pin connector. The 2 extra pins are ground wires, they're just there as a "key", a way for the video card to make sure the wires are thick enough and the power supply is powerful enough to provide up to 150w of power.

On the back of your video cards, you could solder a tiny piece of wire to make the connection between the 5 ground pins (use a multimeter if needed) or you could simply put a piece of wire over the points and put some tape over to lock it in place.

Then you can use the 6 pin connectors, as you basically tricked the card into thinking you inserted a 8 pin connector.

I am planning on adding an extra GPU to my crypto miner.

I currently have 2x pci-e 6 left (1 per PSU, 2 PSU's in total). I  wondered if it was possible to convert those 2 single 6pin pci-e slots, to 1 pci 8pin to power 1 more GPU.

In case it it relevant, I also got 2 spare 2pin pci-e pins left. Those are not used because my other gpu's used 14 pins total, and thus left me with 2x 2pci-e pins. These pins come from 1 PSU.

Kind regards.

Can't you swap one of the 6+2 Pins for a 6 Pin and use the 6+2 for your 8pin card?

Also, there's tons of adapters going 6+6=8.

That's actually quite smart... I did not yet come up with that.

I will look into that!

Thank you in advance!

Thank you too!

This could have been the last information needed for my problem. I actually thought that those 2 extra pins were power too, not just ground.
