Hey guys, I got this monitor on black friday for a screaming deal, and I absolutely love it, but I've had a few issues.

1. It's a 144hz panel, but I cannot get it to display past 120hz. I even went so far as to buy a really nice DP 1.4 cable off amazon, still no dice. DP 1.4 is selected in my OSD.

2. When I plugged in the new DP cable, today I got a popup saying "Caution, only use provided input cables" or something to that effect. I can't see it being possible, but do I risk anything running a not supplied DP cable?

thanks for any help.

Heh.  “ really nice” and “off Amazon” don’t always go in the same sentence very well.  “Fulfilled by Amazon” and “Amazon” are different things.  The monitor apparently doesn’t like your cable for some reason.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

So it’s most likely a just a cable issue?

Dunno.  The problem with computers is there’s always this big long chain of things and the device only functions if they all work.  Cable could possibly be on the list though.  Was it “amazon” or “fulfilled by amazon”?  The fulfilled thing means some no name contractor payed to get his stuff on their website.  Less quality control.

I feel like i know the answer to this, but my LG 34GK950F is telling me to always use the supplied input cable. Can my aftermarket one cause damage?

plugging in any cable that the manufacturer has not sold to you for a highly marked up price will cause your product to instantly explode

no, it will be fine, they include that marketing wank as a "gotcha" for squeaking out of their own warranty but also to make a buck on selling cables to all the old people they've scared into not using any other cable but the supreme LG branded ultra uber-cable

if the cable you currently have makes you concerned, amazonbasics are a pretty solid way of getting inexpensive cables that are manufactured properly

Thanks. It's a decent looking cable. I'll probably be replacing it soon. The DP that came with my monitor doesn't let me run 144hz, so I bought a DP 1.4 cable on amazon, it still won't run at 144hz, so maybe I'll try a nice one from Bestbuy or something too.

Because fuck money, ya know what I mean? I enjoy paying over 1k for a monitor then spending $50 on a charade of cables getting it to work.

Interesting. Quite confused as to why it won't work.

should run 144hz. Try reseting ur display drivers ( Win+Ctrl+Shift+B ) see if it picks it up as 144hz then.

Are u sure u got the 34GK950F-B and not the 34GK950G-B  ??

The G-B is Gsync and apparently runs at 120hz native.

Im 100% sure. It has free sync enabled. Not Gsync. And resetting drivers didn’t help unfortunately
