Dual vs Quad Core AM4

Hey guys! Hope everyone is having a happy holidays!

This holiday I have been looking at a computer upgrade on the end of year sales going on and wanted to get another 16gb of ram to fill up the slots.

After some research ive found out that quad core doesnt run well on AM4. Would this extra 16gb of ram (Putting me at 32GB afterwards) be an upgrade, be worse or would i even notice it at all?

Im currently running a MSI MPG x570, Ryzen 5 3600,G.Skill Trident 16GB 3200MHZ, Gigabyte GTX 1080, 850w PSU, 1TB NVME, 4TB HDD and a 2TB SSD.

Was planning to buy another g.skill trident 2x8gb kit.

Not sure if its needed to know but I stream daily for about 4-6 hours after work everyday and play shooters like CoD, Overwatch and Mobas like HOTS & League. I would like to stay above 144Hz and figured this RAM would help with video editing and graphics design.

Thanks in advanced ! ?

With Ryzen it is best to use 1 stick per channel (Ryzen supports dual channel). This is because you will likely have to lower speeds and/or loosen timings in order for them to work. For example, 2 sticks might get 3200, but 4 only 2666.

I'm assuming you mean running AM4 with four DIMMs instead of two (saying "core" may make people think you mean CPU cores).

Anyway, newer Zen 2-based CPUs have better memory controllers, and many of the compatibility issues with RAM with older Zen-based CPUs have been improved. Your CPU will mostly likely handle four DIMMs fine, even at 3200 MHz. However, you may not be able to overclock as much or set the timings as low, though with that, your mileage can and probably will vary especially depending on the kind of memory or even motherboard you use.

Do you mean quad channel?

You can't run it in quad channel. Your CPU doesn't support it. You'd simply have 4 DIMMS in dual channel.

It's generally recommended to use 2 sticks for dual channel. It's easier on the memory controller, etc.
