Are two 2080s worth it?

Hey Guys!!!

So Christmas is coming up, and I want to upgrade my computer again. I just recently learned that a single rtx 2080 can run GTA5 at ~100 fps. I have an rtx 2080 already and get about ~85 fps in GTA Online. Now, I have a monitor with a refresh rate of 144 hz, however, it runs into serious lag problems and tearing when it isn't at 144 fps. This means that 100 fps still feels like 30 fps. If I limit my moniter's refresh rate to something like 60 fps, the gamma increases for some reason ruining the look of my screen. (I know ways to possibly fix this, but I don't really want to run at 60 fps). So here's the delema... should I sell my current graphics card and get an rtx 2080ti or should I get another rtx2080. I also have another question. Could I buy a 2080 super and link it to my current (non-super) 2080, or would that not work. I had some trouble finding reliable information on this topic. I couldn't find any I'm willing to pay a decent amount of money, however I don't want to go above $1000 as that's my absolute max. I also have a ryzen 3900x. Should I upgrade to a 3950x? Ask me any questions as needed!! Thanks!!!

Nope.

Even if though- dual gpu setups are redundant as most games don't even support it.

Can you list your total system? What resolution are you playing at?

Sell the 2080 and get a 2080ti, or you just stay as is and lower settings for more frames.

gta online has kicked its performance to the curb with the launch of the rockstar launcher, upgrading your system isn't going to help, you also have the best cpu for mmo gaming, any more and you're just paying for redundancy.

When I played GTA in SLI with 1080 Tis, the micro stutter was bearable. With two 2080s, it was much worse.

Now that, that's out of the way it seems like such a shame to rack mount such a clean setup. Hopefully it's on a rack where everything's still visible, assuming you have a windowed top panel.

LOL! It's kind of visible through the front mesh.

To further derail this thread just a bit and then I'll stop. Do you have a picture handy of it actually rack mounted?

I'm confused on how nvlink works I guess. Can someone please explain it to me. I keep hearing talk about sli on rtx 2080 and I'm confused as to why you don't use nvlink cables.

Something's wrong if you cant push 100 fps on 1080p. Think you should try reinstalling drivers

I've tried that a hundred times. I even took it to microcenter to get it checked out and they ended up doing the benchmark on the lowest possible settings and told me it was alright

They work like shit and with exception of a very very few games don't work at all, SLI is for benchmark memes, not modern gaming.  Buy a 2080ti, if you have cash bleeding a hole in your wallet buy a 2080ti Kingpin

maybe buy a new monitor, my 200$ Viewsonic and likewise almost any other decent monitor i've heard of doesn't suffer from any of this.  watch some actual monitor reviews don't try to solve the issue by throwing money at it, there are a lot of crappy monitors at ridiculous prices, and mid-range priced monitors that are fantastic.  it takes a bit of digging but sounds like you bought a pig, hopefully your next purchase will go better
