Today I turned on my computer, and booted up World of Tanks, only to notice it was lagging even in the garage. I opened task manager and to my amazement my processor was running in the sub GHz range! 0.7-0.9

No matter what program I opened, it would not boost above 1Ghz. Luckily when I restarted windows the problem seems to have solved itself, but I'm still making this post as I am interested about how this problem can even happen.

In hindsight I should have opened up HW Info and seen what voltages and wattage the CPU was running at, but I was more concerned at the time with making sure the thing would fix itself then figuring out why it was not working.

Does anyone know what could have possibly caused this? Do I have reason to be concerned in the future considering something like this has happened? Thanks for your time!

Extra Info just in case it is needed:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3950X

Motherboard: Asrock Aqua

Power Supply: Corsair RM 850X

The CPU is running at stock settings, but I have enabled XMP for the RAM. Otherwise everything is basically stock. Before this, I have experienced no problems regarding any of my components

I got no fricken idea :)  I did notice though that another poster was having trouble with mouse lag and he fixed it by setting a steady voltage rather than auto.  A 0% overclock.  His problem went away.  I got no fricken idea about that one either.  Might be useful, might not.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

That’s not like power point is it?  I hope it’s not.  there’s already too many of those in the world and there’s only one.

UPDATE: looked up windows power plan. I am relieved.

ya no definitely not powerpoint.

I think what they are trying to ask is if they've updated Chipset drivers, and using Ryzen Power Plan ('High Performance' for gaming) or just using Windows defaults.  They won't appear unless proper chipset driver is installed.

How would i go about setting a steady minimum voltage?

It was part of the ryzen overclocking bit. All I remember is it had a long name and was set to auto.  I’d only even think about it if the windows power plan thing doesn’t work. @Jurrunio knows a lot more about this stuff.  I’m horribly out of date.  I hang out here as a way to become slightly less ignorant.

I am using "AMD Ryzen*Tm Balanced"

Ditch those plans.
