Nick Ger

Why is there such a high demand for supercomputing power? Who even needs all that storage and compute power?

Off the top of my head medical research like Ben17 said. Also data simulations, AI simulations, programs similar to Alexa or Seri where they will actually take what you say and send it to a "supercomputer" (cluster of servers) to process and return a response.

Various other reasons I'm sure I can't think of.

There's some good info here. The applications for them are boundless and the demand for centralized super computing will just continue to grow exponentially in the future.

Weather models, weather prediction and of course the military to simulate nukes and other stuff. The flight and car industry to simulate new materials before they are tested.
