This computer makes a chime when playing a game. What does it mean?

Close but no, they all have different chimes.

That legit sounds like the AMD "Anti Lag" chime, but don't know why its coming out of the MOBO speaker instead of through headset.  Must be something with how audio chipset is configured within the mobo.  If you wanted to test see if it chimes different with Chill or FPS target.

Anti-Lag is 4 chirps in a scale, like what you have, sounds kinda like a "Victory Charge"
Chill is 3 quick chrips in a scale, shorter slightly lower sounding then Anti-Lag
2 low chirps if you alt tab back in after you turn any of these off.  You may hear a extra "blurp blurp" at front end if you alt-tab and switch between anti-lag or chill

If you use Anti-Lag its probably that, if you can alt-tab out of games it happens in and change between these in radeon settings you should get the chirps when you alt-tab back into the game confirming its this.  No clue why its coming out of the board and its speaker, kinda interesting though.

Better question i've wondered for awhile is if the chimes can be turned off ?, i kinda like them but i know some people don't.
Do any of your other system sounds beep through the mobo speaker?

This is a Chinese X79 board paired with an MSI RX 480 graphics card. When I play certain games, the motherboard speaker will chime shortly after starting the game. I have no idea what this chime means, but I kinda like it. However, it might mean something bad, and I want to know if it’s actually the computer telling me something is wrong.

Try and find the motherboards user manual, it likely means something, but we have no idea of knowing what without knowing more about the motherboard.

This Chinese X79 motherboard has a nonexistent manual. Any documentation that may exist for it probably exists either in Chinese or translated into Russian. This particular model is the X79 2.4F, but I believe all Chinese X79 motherboards share largely the same BIOS.

If you have an AMD video card, it may be the sound indicating that Radeon Chill is activating.

When you start a game that is compatible with Radeon Chill, it will make a ding in the speaker...though usually it will use the default speakers, not the onboard one.

Thanks for the reply. My desktops are all equipped with a motherboard speaker and they all beep at POST. I can also make the speaker beep using software that uses the motherboard speaker, but it is very rare for it to beep on its own when I’m in Windows doing Windows things.

I was thinking that it had something to do with the graphics card, since the chime only occurs while gaming. Good to know it’s just the graphic driver telling me that Anti-lag is working.

The reason why it beeps through the motherboard and not through the sound card is because I use a driver that redirects system beeps to the motherboard speaker called BeepXP64 so I can use Bleeper Music Maker to play beep songs through the motherboard. It’s as stupid as it sounds, but if you want to disable system beeps, one way to do it is to install said driver and unplug the motherboard speaker. No more beeps!
