Headphone suggestions??

In the market for a new pair of headphones ( mostly for gaming) and was wondering if anyone had some suggestions?  Im also kind of looking at the ad 700x from audio technica vs the dt 990 600 ohm from beyerdynamic.  If anyone has any experience with these, which would be better for gaming?

I have the Sennheiser HD58x

Awesome Headphones, but not very bassy, thats why I hooked them up to the Fiio K3 and have the bass boost always enabled, except when playing shooters like CSGO.

ive got the DT770 pro vrom beyerdynamics, they are very good and its the 250ohm model.

the ohms really make no difference for you at all, the differences are so insanely small that all a higher ohm number means for you is that you need a stronger amp to drive it.

I'm using the DT 990 250 Ohm, partially for gaming and have been very happy with them. Quite comfortable and nice sound.

Bass is not that heavy though, which is something certain people might want. I can quite clearly hear footsteps in CS:GO for example, even what direction they are coming from.

I really don's know much about headphones so sorry for all of the questions.  The Headphones that i'm currently using are the Logitech g Pro x.  So these headphones have Dolby 7.1 surround... I'm not sure if this means anything when looking for a pair solid pair of headphones.  Do all headphones such as the dt 990 and the ad 700x have surround sound? is it just a marketing gimmick?

Surround... Is kinda of a gimmick.

There are only 2 speakers in a headphone, so the 7.1 and such can only be simulated.

Many people prefer turning off the surround and actually prefer just making their game do the surround stuff.

So not all headphones have surround, but all can make you hear the sounds like they are coming from all sides.

also if would I need an amp/dac if I have a sound card the plug the 990 in?  Or is the amp a must have?

I am using it with a dedicated AMP/DAC and it works well for me. I have heard people recommend an AMP for these headphones to 'color'  the sound of these headphones differently. But as I have no experience with it, I can't comment on it.

@Pixel5

So I guess the biggest concern that i have is directional sound,  Do you find that the 770 have great directional sound?

any directional sound is gonna be purely a software thing to modulate the audio so it sounds like its coming from somewhere.

for that the headphones dont really matter much, if you audio quality is good you will also have good directional sound.

also a big plus for beyerdynamics is they offer replacement parts, i swap the padding on my headphones every two years or when it gets too dirty in between.

they even offer replacement cables you can install by yourself.

Do you have an amp of any sort?

Yes they are pretty power hungry especially if you are grabbing the 600 ohm. The 250 ohm is not as power hungry but still benefits off an amp.

@rice guru  last question i promise.  600 ohm vs 250?  the 600 is actually less expensive than the 250, is there really a big difference between the two.

the 600 ohm scales better with gear and has tighter bass. and many claim to sound slightly better. but you need  one of the amps I mentioned specifically the spark and the 2 schiit amps.

@rice guru ok i lied i have another question....   If i get a sound card, do i need an amp aswell? would the sound card practically do the same thing as the amp?

yeah they are practically the same as a AMP/DAC combo unit.  but you have more options if you run an external setup. an mny claim including myself sounds better if you run an external setup than internal

@rice guru so with an an external amp such as the magni will i still be able to do 7.1 surround?  Or is that a sound card only thing?  Just trying to see if i need an amp+soundcard to get the directional sound to work the best that it can.

You can totally do that. but you can also do that through software too. but I will warn you that kinda tech is already built into most games these days and is completely unnecessary
