hi I'm building a pc that I plan to do mostly gaming but also some rendering with cinema 4d with octane render.

is a  ryzen 3 2200g a good cpu to use? my friend is selling me his old gtx 1070, are those a good pairing.

I cant afford to spend more then a  ryzen 3 2200g but I have a little room in the budget.

thanks for any help

It's a good CPU compared to less powerful things, or things that aren't as good of a value, but it is not powerful by today's standards by any means, particularly for heavy tasks like you described.  Plus, if you're getting a dGPU (1070) anyway, you don't need the iGPU on the 2200G and so you might be able to get something more powerful for the money, but that depends on your situation and the price you have worked out, the used (and new) markets in your area, etc.

For reference, even something as weak as a Ryzen 1500x is going to match it in lightly threaded tasks and beat it in multi-threaded loads like rendering.

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
