Hello everyone,
I was trying to find a reliable set of 8gb ram (2x4gb) when I realised that there was a large price difference between certain types even though their specs were essentially the same. I am curious to know why exactly there is a price difference between Team Vulcan 8GB(2x4 GB) DDR4 3000 Memory (£34) and Patriot Viper 4 8GB (2X4GB) DDR4 3000 Memory (£46).

Thanks

My guess without looking up the various sticks is that not all the specs are actually the same.  Did you check all the cas numbers?  Not all Xmhz casY is created equal.  Cas has 4 numbers.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

The vulcan has 16-18-18-38

and Patriot has 16-16-16-36

Lower cas numbers are faster but this has a variable effect according to the cpu.  It would matter more for AMD than intel, and more for 3xxx than for 2xxx.

well now you know why the patriot is more expensive.  Whether that amount of difference in speed to you is worth £16 to you is something only you can answer.  The difference is probably not all that large.  The price difference isn’t all that large either though.

Lower cas at a given MHz is faster.  As MHz goes up so does cas though.

I would buy the cheaper one, personally. 16-16-16-36 vs 16-18-18-38 isn't that big of a difference, at least not big enough to justify an extra £16

MAIN PC:

CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 7 7800X3D Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Eagle AX CPU Cooler: EVGA CLC 240 GPU: EVGA RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra RAM: TEAMGROUP Expert T-Create 32GB (2x16GB) 6000Mhz CL30

Case: CoolerMaster TD500 Mesh PSU: Thermaltake GF1 PE 750w Storage: 1TB Western Digital Blue 3D + 1TB Crucial P1 + 1TB ADATA XPG Gammix S11 Pro + 4TB Seagate Barracuda 5400RPM OS: Windows 10 Home

I mean, it depends on what he's using the PC for and if he's going to add more RAM in the future (which he should). Also, he would be paying $20 USD more for little (and I mean minuscule) performance gain. He would be better off buying the cheaper sticks.
