Hi people,

I took delivery, today, of a used BT Openreach VDSL modem. I connected it to the power and plugged in the DSL cable to the modem. I then plugged an ethernet cable from the modem to the WAN port on my Linksys wireless router. Using the PPPoE settings provided by the ISP, I cannot connect to the internet. The router will not be able to connect to the ISP. If I use my ASUS VDSL wireless router in VDSL mode and bridged mode, it works straight away. If the modem is set to bridged mode, it should also work, but doesn’t. Any ideias? My ISP is not BT, but that wouldn’t matter, as all the modem is doing, is converting the analog DSL signal to something the router can see, an ethernet output.

Thanks,

Bruno.

Is your ISP account updated with your latest modem?

The modem is not manageable, and the PPPoE settings are set in the router.

You should check your ISP's website to see if they have an approved modem list.

It's possible you bought a dud, but it's also possible that there could be some incompatibility - or perhaps BT puts custom firmware on it that locks out other providers?

I don't know which is which, however, today was my last day at work, and my boss let me have a used VDSL DrayTek modem/router combo for free. I connected the DSL cable and set it up as a PPPoE passthrough to the LAN ports. Worked like a charm. This is a similar setup to what I was running, with an ASUS router, however, the router was only giving me 28Mbps speeds, instead of the 40Mbps that I should be getting, and 40Mbps is already crap enough. The new DrayTek that I'm using as a bridge is giving me the full speed, so, happy days.
