oveerclocking an h97 PC mate (MSI)

so I have a question, I know typically the H series motherboards were incapable of overclocking but with a bios update it now shows an OC feature? I am considering upgrading my i5 4460 to an i7 4790k (instead of buying a new mb and Ryzen cpu and RAM even though I really want to but i'm on a budget). Anyway can anyone confirm if this board is now capable of overclocking and is the 4790k worth it even if i can't overclock? I've seen some videos comparing it to a R5 2600 and it looks very similar in terms of gaming performance.

You should not upgrade yet, and you should safe for ryzen, since the 4th generation will be coming prices will drop. But ryzen 4th is pretty far away for now that we know.

Some h -series mobo's can oc, but tis not the best experience.

Tier lists for building a PC.

 

Motherboard tier list. Tier A for overclocking 5950x. Tier B for overclocking 5900x, Tier C for overclocking 5800X. Tier D for overclocking 5600X. Tier F for 4/6 core Cpus at stock. Tier E avoid.

(Also case airflow matter or if you are using Downcraft air cooler)

Gpu tier list. Rtx 3000 and RX 6000 not included since not so many reviews. Tier S for Water cooling. Tier A and B for overcloking. Tier C stock and Tier D avoid.

( You can overclock Tier C just fine, but it can get very loud, that is why it is not recommended for overclocking, same with tier D)

Psu tier List. Tier A for Rtx 3000, Vega and RX 6000. Tier B For anything else. Tier C cheap/IGPU. Tier D and E avoid.

(RTX 3000/ RX 6000 Might run just fine with higher wattage tier B unit, Rtx 3070 runs fine with tier B units)
