I've been holding off for the prices to come down since I'm not rich, but I think the time has finally come to purchase a 55" 4K OLED TV.

1. Does anybody have any recommendations?

2. Is anybody aware of any good Black Friday deals that they'd like to share?

3. I'm currently looking at the LG OLED55B9PUA for about $1,600. Opinions?

Thanks

I bought the 55" B9 yesterday for $1200. It arrives on Friday.

I went with it over the C9 because I mainly watch Amazon and Netflix content and have no planes to go 4k blu ray.

The reason I went with LG and not other brands are in this video.

$1,200 USD?

I believe only the C9 and E models are going to be getting the GSync update? I forget where I read it, but it was an LG representative who said that, soo... I'm still considering the B9 for myself nonetheless.

The video uses the B9 65" and the specs say on the LG page that it is compatible.

TV manufactures have lied to me before so I went with Best Buy so I can drive it over there for a return if the feature does not work.

Ahhh, that's where I read it: In the comments on the LG product page. I'm not sure if this "Ivan" fellow is an actual LG representative, but he presented himself pretty authoritatively. Maybe the 65" B9 will be receiving it, but he states that the 55" won't? You can find his comment in the comment section, but here's what he says verbatim: "The televisions getting the G-Sync update are the 65- and 55-inch E9 models and the 55-, 65- and 77-inch C9 models. The LG B9 55 inch Class 4K Smart OLED TV w/AI ThinQ® (54.6'' Diag), Model # OLED55B9PUA will not be receiving the upgrade...^IFV."

You bought the 55 inch? For $1,200 USD or CAD?

US.

The price may go lower but it hit my price point so i won't cry if it does.

Years ago when Sony claimed in adds that there TV was PC compatible and it was not they got sued and technicians actually came to my house to replace firmware so it could.

If it says it in the product page and it is false it is like the GTX 970 but at a much bigger scale.

Yeah, $1,200 is roughly the same price as the CAD price, which is about the threshold at which it's time for me to buy too :)

Duh, staring me in the face the whole time lol...

I don't think I'm going to be using it for gaming, however. I don't want to risk burn-in.

My main gaming computer uses an ultrawide monitor. The TV will only be used for old games that do not like 21:9.

Also the OLED with be replacing my 55" SONY 1080i TV that I bought in 2006 for $3500. It is on an old school stand across from a sofa. Nobody uses it. Everybody is in their rooms watching on PC monitors. I am getting rid of the stand, the TV and the sofa. They will be replaced by a 72" X 30" table with the OLED TV and two "gaming chairs". At least I will use this setup for breakfast and the occasional game but it may be a fail and sit unused.

Ha! The LG will replace my 44" Sony Bravia from about 10 years ago. I've been thinking of remounting that above my two PC monitors to use as a third monitor. The LG will be used strictly for "streaming" video files (i.e. Movies and TV shows) from PC. Can't fucking wait :D:D I really wanted to go with Sony again, but goddamn their shit is comparatively expensive.

ur unlikely to find a 2019 ( 9 series) OLED for less than $1200, most sit around $1500+

Last time i checked the C9 has a faster processing core than the B9, so if they are stating the B9 will not have VRR , that may be why. Cant say iv looked into it though.

As much as i love OLED and want to see it continue to develop, the 55" minimum size is just to big for me. Apparently 48" is coming next year, but even that is kinda to big, and i expect due to its target of being the 'budget' OLED size, it will not have features like 120hz 4k via HDMI 2.1, or VRR.

Manufacturers seem to have got it into their heads years ago that Bigger = Quality. And smaller = budget. Which is ridiculous.

Would love to see a high quality, high end, feature rich 42" OLED display.

After using a 44 inch in my room to watch movies and shows for the past 10 years, I think I'd much prefer a 55 inch now, which seems like it will be the perfect size for me. 65 inch would just be too big for the short viewing distance.

A good move.

I am already past my budget at $1200.

Aye for Movies and shows .. use as a TV ..55"+ is fine, depending on room size.

But i was more commenting on use as a PC display, in a small room where u only have so much space.

Physically i could fit a 55" , it would be tight, but i could fit it. The Problem comes when i have to adjust my viewing distance to compensate for the sheer size.  I have less than 2' of extra space behind me and im already at the 4-5' mark from my 42" Plasma.

Ahh, I see. I'm loving my C9 so far. Now I'm going to use my old Bravia 42"/44" to replace my secondary monitor.

Any idea how I can test this HDMI cable to make sure it's "Ultra Speed" as advertised?
