Buy games worth it?

hi , in the past i bought games from GOG, but now i want to buy a game from steam , the tomb raider reboot from 2013, so its worth the money?, main reason is for multiplayer but i dont understand the diference betwen "multiplayer" an " online multiplayer"-

 

i play the game in the past from 3.-4 hours but i want to replay the game full, but also im interested in the extras and the multiplayer online, so my question is if can play with another persons on the servers online around the world, i have cero experience in multiplayer games and if i buy the game i still play it offline with out internet?

 

i was specting to buy cod modern warfare to try multiplayer online but it seems boring like a remake , so i decided to get tomb raider
