Noctua prototype 200mm fans!!!

Go to solution Solved by X1XNobleX1X,

I emailed Noctua about some 180mm fans (because they only go up to 140mm) for replacements in my Silverstone FT02 case, and they replied to me with a linked image to some prototypes you may want to checkout:

Dear Mr. [Omitted],

thank you for contacting Noctua.

We're currently evaluating our options regarding larger fans, but we do have some first samples which look very promising. Link: http://www.noctua.at/images/computex_2013/noctua_new_a_series_fans.jpg

However I'm wondering which enclosure uses 180mm sized fans, I thought 200mm is the defacto standard for fans larger than 200mm.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Alexander Dyszewski

Very, Very old news.

Sorry!

Never mind people, it's ancient news and Noctua fed me a "shut-up" pic, this is the last time i get "excited" over some tech news.

Very, Very old news.

Sorry!

lol, sorry im new to the experienced pc builders world.  I just recently bought a new "high performance" pc and I looked up a lot of these things, and ofc I discovered Noctua makes really good fans and I wanted to buy some replacements for the stock 180mm in the Silverstone FT02 case, so I emailed them and that is what I got.  I guess I have a lot of catching up to do....

It's fine.

Never used a 180mm fan myself.

It would be good if Noctua released their black fans though.

You can never have too many sizes when it comes to Noctua fans, and if they just so happen to spill black ink on them in the process, no one would mind :)

I have used ninety eight letters of the alphabet so far.

WRONG.  english forum.  english alphabet.  only 26 letters.  :P !

note: if it's not entirely obvious; i'm stating how retarded it is to make discussion of art a rationalizable issue.  fan performance is a real thing; the color of the fan is art. a poorly performing fan can hurt you; a poorly colored fan cannot.  it's actually more stupid than ios vs android.

you never stated that I could not count multiple uses of the same letter, and there are plenty of great performing fans that are not brown and tan. so as well as noctua fans perform, as long as they are ugly they will never find a home in my system, heck they are linus' favorite fan and his system holds a grand total of zero noctua fans, because they are ugly.

I am not saying that color is the only thing I think of when buying for fans, but it IS one of the things I look for.

Dude my last name is Omitted too

LOL, I don't care if you all know my last name, i only did that because the posters name takes away from the main article in this case, and it can be re-posted by others etc.

But yea i looked this up after X1XNobleX1X said it was old news, and i found someone who posted this exact pic like 8 months ago, so yea... i felt pretty unappreciated by Noctua after i saw that :(

..... it felt like the day they took away Santa Claus *sniff * sniff lol

Well if Noctua makes a 180mm fan, they'd have to either optimize it for static pressure or air flow, as Silverstone has the market cornered on the 'compromise' fan with the air penetrators. No way even Noctua could out-do the air penetrators in "even-steven-ness".

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Im not all that up on fans over 120mm, so you think some Silverstones would be an improvement?, cuz if that's the case I think i'm good, my case is a Silverstone FT02 (which comes with 3 180mm fans in the base blowing up lol), and to think... I wanted to replace them smh...

Fans bigger than 140mm lose too much static pressure due to lack of stiffness compared to their diameter (if you look at a 200mm fan with a high speed camera you will see the blades wobbling profusely)

The Silverstone 180mm Air Penetrators are the only fans over 140mm I personally find to have great static pressure and air flow properties due to their construction. They are noisy though. But they are just brutal in terms of moving air.

^ dear lord those 180mm SS fans were impressive.  horrendous for noise.

noctua just needs to release a 180mm can fan and quiet enthusiasts can be happy.  that much air is MORE than enough to indirectly cool a dh14. probably a giant dust filter with it too lol.

so i was just looking, and i'm not sure if my case comes with stock AP181s or AP182s or whatever, but i highly doubt that Silverstone would sell their cases stock without using their own fans. But thanks for the vote of confidence, I heard a lot of people mention the air penetrators as being good fans.
