Bluetooth 5.0 Backwards Compatibility Question

So i have a phone that only supports bluetooth 3.0 and want to buy a pair of wireless earbuds that use bluetooth 5.0, will they still pair fine with each other?

Like USB, they should in theory.

It would be nice to get some definite, because it says the earbuds require bluetooth 4.0 or later and some websites never really talk about compatibility with versions before 4.0 so i don't really know

If the earbuds claim to require 4.0 or greater and you only have a phone with 3.0... the answer is no.

5.0 is backwards compatible with 4.0. After all, I'm not as confident because I couldn't find results talking about 5.0 and 3.0
