Hey everyone,

I built a new pc late last year and have finally had some time to start troubleshooting it as I can't seem to be able to use XMP profiles on my ram. I originally thought it was a mobo issue as I was having troubles overclocking the cpu and ram, but I'm able to get the cpu clocked now at 5.0 each core and it runs fine. Now if I run two of my four sticks of ram, I can run the xmp profile at 3600 (stock) but as soon as I add more my computer won't post. Have to go back into bios and turn off xmp to able to boot again.

Pc build -

Asus maximus hero xi

9900k

32gb corsair rgb pro - 3600

evga 2080 ti ftw3

samsung 970 evo 1tb nvme

corsair h100i pro

corsair 500d se rgb case

corsair RM850xi white

Any help would be appreciated !

Have you tried to add all memory and then enable xmp? Is your kit sold as 4 sticks or 2? If only 2 sticks, then the profile could be optimized for only 2 sticks. If that is the case, set the primary timings manually to whatever it is, for example: 16-18-18-36, 2t and DRAM voltage to: 1.35v (on your board you only set 16-18-36)

CPU: Ryzen 5800X3D | Motherboard: Gigabyte B550 Elite V2 | RAM: G.Skill Aegis 2x16gb 3200 @3600mhz | PSU: EVGA SuperNova 750 G3 | Monitor: LG 27GL850-B , Samsung C27HG70 |
GPU: Red Devil RX 7900XT | Sound: Odac + Fiio E09K | Case: Fractal Design R6 TG Blackout |Storage: MP510 960gb and 860 Evo 500gb | Cooling: CPU: Alphacool ST30 420mm rad, Alphacool CPU and GPU Core LT and Core blocks, D5 pump and res combo

Yup if I have all 4 in the mobo and enable xmp the computer won't post. It works fine if I leave them at 2133mhz with all 4 sticks in but if I enable xmp it won't boot. It was a 4 stick set that I bought.

I haven't tried manually clocking the ram myself, was never super familiar with it and assumed if xmp won't work that might not work either. But I can definitely try it.

Yeah should work, unless one stick is bad. If you cant find the settings go to the tab in BIOS -> Tools and then SPD. But as said earlier, just set primary timings.

I will give that a shot tomorrow, thanks!

Cool, remember setting dram voltage before giving up. And test this before applying the overclock. ;)

Love, MOM?

4 stick configs are less reliable than 2 stick configs, and its likely XMP just failed.

put in 1,4 or 1,45v on the memmory and run it at its rated speed, should fix it.
