Hey there guys,

So I'm gonna start by saying that my long time USB drive companion has been the Sandisk Cruzer Extreme 64GB which has excelent speeds at this price point (~$41): 175 MB/s write and 270 MB/s read speeds.

Now that I'm starting getting a lot of USB-C things in my tech life I'd like to buy a new drive but with USB-C that has similar speeds to the one I have, anything much lower than this is considered a massive downgrade.

I'm wiling to pay extra for one with similar performance.

I've looked all over the internet, the problem WITH the internet is that they all make lists with shitty ass thumb drives as small as house keys, thus neglecting performance for portability(which is a big no no for me). EVEN the #1 from these lists can barely do a measily 70 MB/s write speed and around 150 MB/s for read (huge downgrade from what I got)

Do any of you have any insight on this market of usb-c drives ? A 128GB sized one is the one i'm aiming for since the 64GB I got kinda starts to fall into the low end of capacity for my needs.

What do I use this for ?

  • Just transferring files, so both read and write speeds are important, I don't want to spend half an hour copying 80 gigs of data

"Fast" drives I've read about (I've already dismissed them as an option)

  • Samsung Duo Plus 128GB: for its very nice read speed what the heck were they thinking with such a huge gap between read and write speeds
  • PNY P-FD128ELX-GE Elite-X 128GB: not terrible, not great (200 MB/s read, 100 MB/s write as reported by manufacturer)

  • (to be continued)

Sandisk is always been the best I've found for USB sticks. So I recommend them, other then that I'd say go with Samsung next. Best warranties and support as well as they make decent nand

If u want a response then YOU'D best Quote me so I can see it.

Shouldn't have to say this but the few ruin it for them all......

Yeah, but that particular drive has abysmal write speeds for my needs

for me speeds don't mean shit if the drive fails only a few months down the road. Your choice Reliability or speed.

never had issues with my sandisk, if I would then I'd know (about a particular manufacturer), so I'm thinking a bit differently, but your point is valid nonetheless

Just get an m.2 enclosure then.

like a MS09, MS10 or MS11 from Silverstone. and just equip it with a m.2 drive of your choosing.

Why can't I get a USB thumb drive? Your solution is nice but it's not near as small as a regular ubs drive.

I'm also wondering what's up with these speeds, since USB drives have come a long way, performance-wise, except these USB-C ones are weirdos

because of write speed, endurace, capacity and so fourth i guess.

you can just get a thumb drive, but enclosures are really nice

well as I said, i'm looking for something that's similar to what I have, not SSD level, but not "wtf level"

I've looked over some enclosures, but I might as well buy an external SSD
