Found the answer, it was a railroad, of all things

Kinda odd, the question is kinda out of context or worded incorrectly as the states were all referred to as the 13 colonies rather than north and south at that time.

Well as it was mentioned before, McDonalds. Lincoln authorized the building of hundreds of McDonalds outlets all over the South. The Confederate army could not resist McDonald's delicious fries. So they ate so much that they became too fat to fight and had to surrender.

 

And that was how the North one the war, with the help of McDonalds. Either that, or my guess would be the railroads. Though in hindsight, most of the railroads were built by the South. The North simply seized them and established the United States Military Railroad department to oversee them. So my third guess would be the the US navy. The US navy in the Union got really big during the war; without the navy the North would have definitely lost the war.

 

So it's either McDonalds, the railroads, or the navy.
