Hello,

I just now upgraded an old i7 3770 processor to an amd ryzen 7 3700x togheter with beter ram and a new mobo.

I finished building it and when i tried booting it it at first didnt show my ssd. After switching from CSM mode to UEFI and back it did show up in the boot order however.

When i try booting to it it gives me the message "disk read error occurred". The SSD worked yesturday just fine so i doubt thats the problem. However im clueless to what could be the problem.

I already check if me IDE cable is properly in the ssd and it is.

Thank you in advance!

So the only thing you change was cpu, mobo, and ram?

Exactly, i run the ryzen 7 3700x with the msi 570-A pro and 32gb of ddr4 memory at 3600MHz. i kept my GPU which is a gtx 1060 6gb and my storage devices.

PS. i just created a bootable ubuntu flash drive and booted to it and in the file explorer of ubuntu my SSD is not visible either even tho it is visible in the boot menu

Try changing the SATA mode in bios.

Have you try a different SATA port.
Do you have a spare drive to install an OS on it. Yes, then do that.

I tried 3 different SATA ports so far. and i can boot to ubuntu from the flash drive if needed.

I did read online that only 1 of the sata ports has nvme but i dont think that should matter. (i have tried that port however)

It won't make sense to disable NVMe in bios as not all SATA ports are shared. But disable NVMe and see what happens.

Do you have an HDD or another SSD to test with.

Try to install Windows on 1 of them and if they boot up fine, then it's it's a coincidence your SSD died while upgrading

Would the drive be recognised by the bios if it died tho? (it shows correct storage volume aswell).

Maybe it's not fully dead. So install OS on another drive to see what's going on with the SSD.

I have some new info, when i try to install windows it shows me all the partitions including the SSD ones with the correct sizings and everything. When i then select the SSD partition it tells me it "cant install wildonws on the drive because it contains an mbr partition table. On EFI-systems u can only install windows to GPT drives." no clue what that means but it sounds like it might be related

GPT is a partition table for use when you're trying to install Windows on a drive that is larger than 2TB.
