So I have this code (it's an alphanumeric Caesar cipher):

I also know that if you translate each letter/number in the original code, to find the shift value it is close to adding them all up or finding the mean, but not quite.

well without any further hints and assuming the result isn't a sentence you're basically taking a guess - the shift could be given by literally anything and you'd have no way of verifying it.

Caesar cipher is ease to crack. There are only 26 alphabets in the English language. You do not even need a computer to do this, you can in fact brute force it by hand. It is only 26 letters so only 26 attempts are needed to exhaust all possibility. If numbers are included, that is still 36 possible mappings. Still totally doable to brute force by hand.

If you have some way of telling when you found the answer, yes. In this case we don't.

Just see if the end result is gibberish or not. If you see actual sensible words, you have guess the right thing.

there is no combination that has letters in a position that makes sense. too many repeating patterns/characters

That's why I was thinking it was a column transposition or rail fence cipher, as those often fill in the remaining space with 'junk' letters, but with 4 segments with 4 'junk letters', that seems like overkill. Also, we would need the keyword to know what order to put the columns back in order to make the words make sense.

I have a number of high end systems at work, and took a crack at this using them (shhh, I work for the gov't, don't tell anyone!)

There are a number of "garbage" characters embedded in the phrase to throw off basic brute force attacks.

You end up with "leet speak" phrases, and like I said, discarding the obvious nonsense, you end up with the following phrase:

 

"The cake is a lie."

Yeah it was the original creator. They said there should be a solution, but i still haven't found it. Maybe could be coordinates with those numbers, but i'm not sure
