You can't it's the same socket but you need a z300 series board for the 9700.

you need a motherboard upgrade.

Chipset really doesnt matter. There are mods out there you can do to make a 7th or 8th gen CPU work on a 9th gen board. The reason its not compatible is because the pins are different even though they're the same 1151 socket and pin count. Just the pins do different things between the series of CPUs.

They got 6th and 7th gen processors to work on 300 series motherboards though so i think that it's just the chipset

its not the chipset thats limiting the compatibility, its the socket pin outs.. they changes what pin does what function from a 100 and 200 series board to the 300 series...

I mean if you are going to get a new cpu and motherboard, don’t forget looking at ryzen. 3600 or 3800x solid choices
