It's mostly a normal motherboard, usually with lots more (x2) PCIE slots.

A computer with a ton of PCIE expansion cards (GPU's) can be helpful for many more tasks, including (but not limited to):

- F@H/BOINC

- GPU rendering (video encoding, 3D model rendering, etc.)

- Deep learning

- Some nefarious uses I won't mention

- Having many screen outputs in one machine

 

Other than that, it's a normal board, so can be used in a normal system too (provided it has the right IO for you, they are typically limited in terms of USB ports and such).
