Display Overclocking, Any danger ?

Hello,

I just bought a Dell U3818DW (great deal! 590 CA$ - Manufactured July 2019), and even if I mainly plan to use it for work, I just tried to overclock it. It seem stable at 90Hz on Windows.

Is that safe ?

Yeah it is, tho note that overclocking can sometimes ruin colour accuracy.

I overclocked one of my old 60hz monitors for awhile at work to 75hz and used it for 3 years without issue. I am sure there is danger of course when running hardware past what it was intended but I have always bumped up my Hz on my monitors and have not run into an issue. As Jurrunio said you can run color accuracy and sometimes when the PC goes to sleep when you wake it up the display does some weird stuff sometimes but that is just my experience. normally the issue goes away when restarting the monitor

i tried it on a cheap tv, it was a TCL 49 inch 4k 60hz with their so called "120 cmi".

 

The panel surprisingly can overclock to 240hz, however the ghosting is SO BAD, 240hz wont even do anything........ghosting is so bad your 240hz, 120hz and 60hz perform pretty much the same on the ufo test lol

 

honestly i am still not sure if it actually overclocked to 240 or is the signal just a trick.....
